The American Heritage Dictionary defines recession re·ces·sion 1 n.

1. The act of withdrawing or going back.
2. An extended decline in general business activity, typically two consecutive quarters of falling real gross national product

Not so fast old tired media, you know that an economic recession can only be properly defined as such after two consecutive quarters SIX months.

The Wall Street Journal writes The National Bureau of Economic Research formally defines a recession as three consecutive quarters of falling real gross domestic product. A recession affects different securities in different ways. For example, holders of high-quality bonds stand to benefit because inflation and interest rates may decline. Conversely, stockholders of manufacturing firms will probably see company profits and dividends drop.

So, we are not in a recession, you really cannot know if the country is in recession until AFTER it happens. The problem with the old media is that they want a recession. They are doing everything they can to start one. They feel that if they say it enough people will believe it and they are mostly right. Most people do not know the true definition.

Why would the old media want the country to be in or go through a recession? Because there are 98% liberal democrats running the media outlets. So? They know that if they can plant this word in the minds of the American people they have a chance at winning the election.

Currently the old media is touting depressed growth. But growth still the same, not negative numbers yet. The media is reporting flat growth for January 2008.

Really, what happened to everyone spending money in December for Christmas? They always hold back during January so they can pay off some of the credit cards they used in December. This happens EVERY year, but the news isnt news any more it is political hacks.

The media is trying to make you scared to spend money so there will be a recession.

Can anyone explain why Keith Oberman is on a pannel during a political debate? He is a commetator at best and usually comments on sports. You do not see FOX putting Hannity on as a fill in anchor for Brit Hume, because his is a commentator.
