the US didn't consent to this or know about it. Turkey has been fighting the Kurd rebels for a while now. This is apparently just the first time jets were used but helicopters and artillery fire were used previously.
I think the US is going to have a real problem stabilizing Iraq even if they implement the Biden-Gelb Plan. Check out the plan, it's in the policies section.
An autonomous Kurdish region in the north would not only wreak havoc on Turkish-Iraqi relations but also US-Turkish relations as well.
