The second amendment to the United States Constitution makes this issue wonderfully clear: every man shall have the right to bear arms, and that right shall not be infringed upon. However, convicted felons should be stripped of this right, and therefore a background check must be conducted before a citizen can purchase a weapon. Otherwise, its the right of the people to arm themselves and form a militia in the event that the federal government fails at protecting them.
